ABOUT
We are a friendly association of approximately 200 members (and growing). We are based in Cardiff but draw our members from Cardiff, Newport, Caerphilly, Rhondda Cynon Taf and Barry, including further afield. Most of our members are beekeepers or are looking to become beekeepers. We promote the craft of beekeeping and the benefits of products from the hive.

We meet on the second Tuesday of every month from September to April and have meetings during the summer months at members’ apiary sites. Our meetings usually consist of talks on the latest developments in beekeeping, such as how to control disease and swarms.

The Association Committee are a group of 12 beekeepers who volunteer their time to ensure that there is a range of interesting talks and demonstrations throughout the year. They are supported by other members who help and assist with events such as the annual honey show.

We have also introduced our own honey show for members to display their wares and be guided on how they can improve their produce under the watchful eye of experienced honey judges.
The Christmas social and mead tasting always proves to be popular. We have also had talks on candle making, cosmetics and cooking with honey.

A more recent development is preparing members for the basic certificate in beekeeping which is administered by the Welsh Beekeeping Association. This shows people you are competent to keep bees.

We now run an introduction to beekeeping course for new beekeepers as a weekend course. This is followed up with practical sessions at our training apiaries in Forest Farm, Fon Mon and Lisvane.

We are also affiliated with the Welsh Bee Keeping Association; as such we are able to offer members many benefits including insurance for beekeeping activities.

If you are interested in learning more about us or are interested in becoming a beekeeper then get in touch, we are always happy to help.
